I\u2019ve learned that this is not the time to keep piling on more.<\/p><p data-start=\"285\" data-end=\"425\">Over the years, I\u2019ve actually started <em data-start=\"323\" data-end=\"336\">simplifying<\/em> things more and more at this point in the school year \u2014 and it\u2019s made a huge difference.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">I stop overcomplicating activities<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d6f4b56 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"d6f4b56\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-27ecd6f elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"27ecd6f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"473\" data-end=\"598\">This used to be the time of year where I felt pressure to keep things exciting with brand-new ideas and elaborate activities.<\/p><p data-start=\"600\" data-end=\"669\">But what I\u2019ve learned is that students don\u2019t necessarily need <em data-start=\"662\" data-end=\"668\">more<\/em>.<\/p><p data-start=\"671\" data-end=\"698\">They need things that feel:<\/p><ul data-start=\"699\" data-end=\"742\"><li data-section-id=\"15dsb5p\" data-start=\"699\" data-end=\"711\">familiar<\/li><li data-section-id=\"126dver\" data-start=\"712\" data-end=\"726\">manageable<\/li><li data-section-id=\"xzdcv3\" data-start=\"727\" data-end=\"742\">predictable<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"744\" data-end=\"833\">Simple activities almost always go better this time of year than overly complicated ones.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4b04568 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"4b04568\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6a492f8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"6a492f8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">I lean into routines students already know<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cecb472 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"cecb472\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d2d33b8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d2d33b8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"890\" data-end=\"973\">By May, students are comfortable with certain centres, materials, and expectations.<\/p><p data-start=\"975\" data-end=\"1069\">So instead of constantly introducing new things, I reuse activities we already know how to do.<\/p><p data-start=\"1071\" data-end=\"1080\">That way:<\/p><ul data-start=\"1081\" data-end=\"1191\"><li data-section-id=\"1yerzh5\" data-start=\"1081\" data-end=\"1121\">students can work more independently<\/li><li data-section-id=\"qewyaf\" data-start=\"1122\" data-end=\"1150\">transitions are smoother<\/li><li data-section-id=\"5o77e0\" data-start=\"1151\" data-end=\"1191\">and there\u2019s less frustration overall<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1193\" data-end=\"1305\">The learning is still happening \u2014 students just aren\u2019t overwhelmed trying to figure out directions all the time.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7b79d1e e-grid e-con-full e-con e-child\" data-id=\"7b79d1e\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ab86e96 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"ab86e96\" data-element_type=\"widget\" class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">I focus more on regulation and movement<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d3a498b e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"d3a498b\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-579524c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"579524c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"1359\" data-end=\"1401\">This is probably the biggest shift for me.<\/p><p data-start=\"1403\" data-end=\"1476\">Especially now in my Student Services role, I see how much students need:<\/p><ul data-start=\"1477\" data-end=\"1555\"><li data-section-id=\"ueht4b\" data-start=\"1477\" data-end=\"1489\">movement<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1v6rq78\" data-start=\"1490\" data-end=\"1500\">breaks<\/li><li data-section-id=\"dvdprk\" data-start=\"1501\" data-end=\"1524\">predictable support<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1ysqnxu\" data-start=\"1525\" data-end=\"1555\">and opportunities to reset<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1557\" data-end=\"1682\">Sometimes a quick movement break or a familiar hands-on activity does more than pushing through another worksheet ever could.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eba608b e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"eba608b\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8c08c0f elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"8c08c0f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">I stop expecting perfection<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9f85d15 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"9f85d15\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0f1e405 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0f1e405\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"1724\" data-end=\"1773\">At this point in the year, I focus a lot more on:<\/p><ul data-start=\"1774\" data-end=\"1822\"><li data-section-id=\"1a2efoe\" data-start=\"1774\" data-end=\"1788\">connection<\/li><li data-section-id=\"3jpfed\" data-start=\"1789\" data-end=\"1803\">engagement<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1bpoa9r\" data-start=\"1804\" data-end=\"1822\">and small wins<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"1824\" data-end=\"1863\">Not every activity needs to be perfect.<\/p><p data-start=\"1865\" data-end=\"1936\">Not every student is going to produce their best work every single day.<\/p><p data-start=\"1938\" data-end=\"1964\">And honestly, that\u2019s okay.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c8937a4 e-grid e-con-full e-con e-child\" data-id=\"c8937a4\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7690e30 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"7690e30\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Simple tends to work best<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ccc3e1f e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"ccc3e1f\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b573432 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b573432\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"2004\" data-end=\"2071\">The activities I keep coming back to are usually the simplest ones:<\/p><ul data-start=\"2072\" data-end=\"2179\"><li data-section-id=\"mwottd\" data-start=\"2072\" data-end=\"2091\">fine motor bins<\/li><li data-section-id=\"4r7fl0\" data-start=\"2092\" data-end=\"2109\">hands-on math<\/li><li data-section-id=\"8ydvbt\" data-start=\"2110\" data-end=\"2132\">sorting activities<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1fkbk3k\" data-start=\"2133\" data-end=\"2151\">building tasks<\/li><li data-section-id=\"1ftmler\" data-start=\"2152\" data-end=\"2179\">movement-based learning<\/li><\/ul><p data-start=\"2181\" data-end=\"2238\">Things students can jump into without a long explanation.<\/p><p data-start=\"2240\" data-end=\"2321\">Those are the activities that continue to work \u2014 even when energy levels are low.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1dbafb7 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"1dbafb7\" data-element_type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b98c496 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"b98c496\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2
